Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Complex, Elusive and Standout

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms, £7.99

Where to buy: Boots

Don’t ask me how I managed to totally miss the launch of these beauties back in the end of January, but on a recent trip to Boots I spotted them and let me tell you, it was hard to leave with only 3 in my hands (yeah, I did just say ‘only’ – so bad, I know!). Thankfully, they are currently on a 3 for 2 offer in Boots, so I picked my 2 favourites and a wildcard, which is a shade I wouldn’t normally go for. Let me show you what they look like up close and personal.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Complex, Elusive and Standout

The Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm comes in a lip crayon form, and it’s much like its predecessor, the ever so popular Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, except it’s matte and with a velvet finish. I like how they coordinate the packaging with the shade and finish of the lip balm – it definitely makes it easier to stop the ones you want at a glance. The crayon has a twist up and down kind of base, so there’s no need to sharpen it or worry about twisting it up too much.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Complex, Elusive and Standout

The Matte Balms come in 10 shades, all matte as the name suggests, with an amazing variety of colours! The shades are: Complex, Shameless, Standout, Elusive, Audacious, Sultry, Unapologetic, Mischievous, Striking and Showy. I ended up only getting Complex, Elusive and Standout, despite wanting Sultry and Unapologetic really badly – I might have to go back for them!

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Complex, Elusive and Standout

I found that the formula varied from balm to balm, but overall they are very pigmented, creamy and they dry matte on the lips with a velvet finish and become pretty much non-transferable to touch. Some are more drying than others on the lips, especially the lighter shades. They are also slightly fragranced and cooling on the lips, which I found quite pleasant.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Complex

Complex is a peachy brown nude; it can be a bit patchy and drying on the lips. I don’t like this shade on me, as I think it makes me look a bit dead and lifeless, but it’s a nice nude shade for paler complexions.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Elusive

Elusive is a light cool-toned rose pink; it’s my favourite shade of the bunch and the formula applies a lot more evenly than Complex. Also, contrary to Complex, this shade instantly perks up my complexion and brightens up my face.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Standout

Standout is a berry red; it’s the most moisturising and least patchy on the lips. I’m totally in love with this shade; it’s the closest thing I own to a neutral red and it dries super quickly, so I don’t end up with lipstick on my teeth.

I can definitely recommend these if you’re a fan of matte lips. These felt quite similar on the lips to the Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Matte Lipsticks, but they are a bit less long-lasting and easier to work with, which makes them easier for touch-ups. Now I have my eyes on Sultry and UnapologeticI’m coming for ya!
