Introduction

I’m always on the hunt for a good photo-friendly foundation which won’t make me look like a ghost under flash-photography, so when I saw the Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup foundation, I was intrigued by both claims of being ‘photo-ready’ and giving an ‘airbrush’ finish.

Coverage & Texture

The PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup is a medium coverage foundation with a dewy-looking finish and velvety matte feel. It covered up minor spots, some hyper-pigmentation and minimised the freckles on my nose; it didn’t do much for my dark circles, pores and redness. Compared to the Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup (HERE), which has a similar texture, the Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup unfortunately looses the battle as the Armani foundation provides more coverage and disappears into the skin.

Shade Selection

This foundation comes in 6 shades; Nude, Vanilla, Shell, Natural Beige, Golden Beige and Caramel. It definitely serves more the medium skin-toned folks, leaving the very pale and very dark skinned people a bit disappointed. I chose shade #40 Natural Beige, which is a reasonably good, but not perfect, colour match to my Winter skin tone (MAC NC30).

Application & Finish

Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup claims to provide flawless finish and ‘blend evenly for undetectable coverage‘. In my experience, I found this foundation difficult to blend with brushes; I tried it with a Japonesque Flat Foundation Brush and a Real Techniques Buffing Brush, without much success; it simply wouldn’t disappear into my skin. When I decided to do the old-school way of blending it with my fingers, it performed surprisingly well.

The finish is a difficult one to describe. The skin feels matte but looks dewy, so I would say it’s a mixture of both. You can definitely feel the foundation on your skin, even after it’s dried. It needs to be set with a powder to prevent it from melting and looking patchy.

Formulation

This is an oil-free mousse foundation that contains photochromatic pigments, which reflect light giving the appearance of minimised pores and flaws. Once you squeeze the applicator, the foundation starts to bubble up very quickly, and if you’re not careful, you could end up with far too much product for what you need.

In practice, however, I found this foundation to be a bit drying and it cast a greyish shadow over my face, making me look a bit dull and colourless. The photochromatic pigments does deposit tiny shimmer particles, so if you’re not a fan of that, this foundation is not for you.

I believe this is an SPF-free foundation (considering it’s ‘photo-ready’), but I can’t find that information anywhere to confirm. If you definitely do not want SPF in your foundation, do not mistake the Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup for the the Revlon PhotoReady Makeup, which has SPF 20.

Results

Overall, I’m still a bit undecided about this foundation. It provides a good medium coverage, but not without a few problems. If I’m having a particularly good skin day and my skin is not looking too dry, this foundation looks really good, as you can see on the picture above. But if my skin is feeling a bit dry (which happens most days), the Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup will not help me out. Either way, I’m also not a fan of how dull it makes my face look, the melting feeling to touch and that I need to set it with a powder.
