Last night the Golden Globes 2012 brought so much glamour to millions of living rooms across the world, including mine. I was glued to the TV watching the ‘Red Carpet’ and as soon as I saw the stunning Angelina Jolie walk down the red carpet, I knew I had to try her makeup look! She looked absolutely amazing from head to toe, nothing less than the definition of ‘Hollywood Glamour’. Just as a little disclaimer, I know I can never recreate Angelina’s exact look because, sadly I look nothing like her and I don’t know the products her makeup artist used on her, but I gave it my best try and this is what I came up with.

The keywords for this look were: porcelain skin, black eyeliner and red lips. Ms Jolie’s skin looked pretty perfect and natural, so I started by applying a primer to smoothen the lines on my face. Next, I applied a light to medium coverage foundation that matches my skin tone, then I applied another light to medium coverage foundation slightly lighter than my skin tone, in order to tone down my skin colour and create that porcelain skin look. After two layers of foundation, I hardly needed any concealing, but I applied concealer just to brighten the under-eye area and buffed a bit of translucent powder on my T-Zone (forehead, nose and chin).

I also noticed that Angelina didn’t have any blush on, just a bit of definition on her perfectly sculpted cheekbones, so I skipped the blusher and applied a sheer layer on bronzer on the hollows of my cheeks to define my cheekbones. I used a highlighter over my cheekbones, bringing it towards my temples, as this creates a lovely effect when the light hits your face, and I’m pretty sure Angelina would not brave the Red Carpet without a dab of highlighter. And that is the skin done!

Moving on to the eyes, Angie didn’t have much going on there in terms of eyeshadows, but she had a pretty strong eyeliner look. To create the base, I used a skin-toned cream eyeshadow followed by a skin-toned powder eyeshadow all over the lid, up to the crease. Next, I applied a champagne eyeshadow, focusing more on the inner half of the eyes and closer to the lashline, and a really sheer layer of a medium brown eyeshadow on the outer corner and crease of my eyes to create some depth.

I also used a matte black eyeshadow along my upper lashline to create a line that is thicker on the outer corner and thinner on the inner corner. I followed that same line on the lower lashline, starting on the outer corner and going up to 3/4 of the eye. Ms Jolie seemed to have a very discrete winged eyeliner look on, so I winged it out a bit as well. Finally, I applied two coats of mascara on my top and bottom lashes. I did notice that Angelina had false lashes on, but I’m terrible at applying them, so if you’re good at the art of applying false lashes, go for it, if not, apply at least 2 coats of mascara to get really thick lashes.

Next, Angie had really understated eyebrows, but they looked quite perfected, so I filled in any gaps in my eyebrows with a medium brown eye liner pencil, and brushed off the excess with a brow brush. Then I drew a thin line with a white eye liner right underneath my eyebrows in order to ‘erase’ any mistakes I may have made when filling in my brows and to highlight the brow bone.

The lips were the highlight of this look for me. Angelina had a pretty fierce orange-toned red lipstick on that matched her dress and enhanced her famous beautiful big lips. First I lined my lips with a clear lip liner, just so I knew the shape I wanted to follow, then I applied the red lipstick. I went a little bit over the actual shape of my lips to create the illusion of fuller lips, and sealed everything off with a layer of Lipcote.

And that is the finished look! I had so much fun trying to recreate this it, and I even got a compliment from the boyfriend saying it looked pretty. Score! :) Ms Angelina Jolie looked gorgeous at the Golden Globes, and I think this look would look amazing for a really glam party.

What do you think my attempt to recreate Angelina Jolie’s look at the Golden Globes 2012? What was your favourite celebrity look from the Golden Globes?

Au revoir!

Ysis
